The Flag Program

The Flag Program is an educational program geared for schools and civic minded groups about the history of the United States flag.  The program includes the history of the flag beginning with the American Revolution and concluding with our current 50 Star Flag.

The program was formed after members of our Color Guard observed when marching in local parades, younger men and children did not show proper respect for the flag.   We soon learned that this inattention isn’t a deliberate act of disrespect; it’s more a case of not having been taught the same flag etiquette as previous generations.  Through casual conversations with elementary teachers, we discovered the history of the U.S. flag and flag etiquette are not routinely taught in classrooms today.

Our Assembly is happy to present the flag program to school groups or civic organizations in Hamilton County or surrounding communities.  Please contact our Flag Program coordinator Jerry Maier for more information.

If your assembly would like to adopt your own flag program, we’d be happy to help provide our curriculum to get your group started. You can also watch a video of our presentation below.

Chalice Program

The Memorial Chalice Program

The Memorial Chalice Program is designed to memorialize a 4th Degree Sir Knight who has passed away by presenting a chalice, with his name engraved on the chalice, to the family of the deceased. Upon the family’s recommendations, the chalice is then presented to a priest, bishop, parish, or mission and the deceased Knight is remembered in every Mass in which the chalice is used.

To make a donation or for more information about this program, please contact Anthony Kaufmann at purser@kofcassemby2740.org.

By-laws of the Memorial Chalice Program:

  1. It should be an ongoing effort within the assembly to raise volunteer contributions to support the Memorial Chalice Program.
  2. The assembly may consider a $5.00 increase in annual dues from its members to help support the Memorial Chalice Program.
  3. As operating funds become available, the Assembly should have at least three Memorial Chalices on hand to be presented as outlined in these by-laws.
  4. With growth, should an assembly break away to form a new assembly all funds and assigned chalices would stay with the original Assembly # 2740.
  5. The deceased Sir Knight had to have been a good practicing Catholic and in good standing as a 4th Degree Knight.
  6. The assembly, in which the Sir Knight was a member, presents a chalice to the family of the deceased at the conclusion of the Knights of Columbus Memorial Service.
  7. After the memorial service, the departed Sir Knight’s name and appropriate dates will be engraved on the chalice as in the following example: “In Memory of Sir Knight John P. Sample 1939-2007”.
  8. The chalice may not be replaced with any other memorial; however, other memorials may accompany it if desired.
  9. The donated chalice should be on display near the head of the casket during the wake service.
  10. Family members of the deceased will donate the chalice to a priest, bishop, parish, or mission of their choice.
  11. The placement of the chalice must be deemed appropriate by the Lt. General Timothy J. Maude Assembly #2740.
  12. Should the family need assistance with the placement of the chalice, the assembly may assist.
